'Freaky Tales Afdah' describes the mysterious green energy presence that permeates Oakland as 'psytopics,' which has become a sort of religion for Sleepy Joe, who first encounters it in a recruitment ad. With multiple stories connected by characters leaving a showing of 'The Lost Boys' at the Grand Lake Theater, who, although loving the film, openly doubt its logic, Fleck and Boden aim to take viewers back to the 1980s by leveraging the sentimental experience of movie evenings. Tina and Lucid are the first characters in 'Freaky Tales,' moving from a movie theater to a punk club and trying to enjoy an Operation Ivy show before a bunch of skinheads interrupt.
