Afdah Review: Jason Statham Embodies a Hero in 'A Working Man'

Episode Notes

Since he avoids using cynicism or overt parody, David Ayer distinguishes out among genre tale writers and directors, making him an unquestionably authentic filmmaker. The somber and realistic tone that worked well for him in "End of Watch" might not have worked as well in "Bright," but it's admirable that Ayer still believes in treating his viewers with dignity. Although he is sometimes self-aware, his films do not hide their unadulterated emotional power or their occasionally direct themes. Even though Ayer has dabbled in both mainstream and highbrow film, he has made a name for himself with films like "A Working Man afdah," which combine real emotional depth with B-movie thrills to create an entertaining viewing experience.
